Bamwine Geremi: A Rising Star from Edgars Youth Programme to Uganda’s U20 National Team

In the world of football, success stories often begin on small, humble pitches, and for Bamwine Geremi, the journey from Edgars Youth Programme to the Uganda U20 National Team is nothing short of inspiring.

His passion for football ignited at the tender age of six when he first stepped onto the grounds of Edgars Youth Programme in 2010. Little did anyone know that this young boy would blossom into a talented footballer who would make his mark on the global stage.

During his years at Edgars, Bamwine honed his skills under the watchful eyes of dedicated coaches who saw his potential. The academy not only taught him the technical aspects of the game but instilled in him the values of discipline, hard work, and perseverance. By 2016, he was not only representing Edgars but also showcasing his talent for his school team at Waterford College in Eswatini-Swaziland, creating ripples of excitement among his peers and coaches.

‘My first time at Edgars was a beautiful moment meeting my fellow agemates, playing against them and the staff were really nice; trying to teach us. I feel it was a great decision choosing Edgars for my football development journey.’ Commented Geremi

In 2019, Bamwine embarked on a new chapter in his football journey by enrolling in the Bracknell International Football Academy and joining Sundhurst Football Club in England. This move marked a significant step forward in his pursuit of excellence. The exposure to international football and the competitive English football scene contributed to his rapid development as a player.

August 2023 witnessed another milestone for Bamwine as he donned the jersey of Aspire Football Club in England. Playing at a high level alongside pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in International Business Studies and Management at the University of Amity showcased his commitment to both academics and his football career. This dual focus was a demonstration of his determination and ambition.

The crowning moment for Bamwine came when he received the call-up to represent the Uganda U20 National Team that is preparing for the All-Africa Games scheduled for March in Accra-Ghana. His dream of playing for his country had become a reality, and he was elated to contribute his skills and passion to the national squad. In an interview, He expressed his love for the game and his desire to win, emphasizing the hard work and dedication required to achieve success.

Credits pour to his parents for their unwavering support throughout his journey and acknowledges the various coaches who pushed him to become the player he is today. His success is not just a personal triumph but a testimony to the collaborative efforts of those who believed in his potential.

Three other players who have received similar nurturing at Edgars Youth Programme; Saidi Mayanja (KCCA FC), Shafic Magogo(Kitara FC) and Alpha Ssali (Express FC) also made it to the U20 National Team provisional squad summoned for the All Africa Games.

As Bamwine Geremi continues to make strides in his football career, he serves as an inspiration to aspiring young talents in academies around the world. His story reinforces the notion that with dedication, perseverance, and the right support system, dreams can indeed become a reality on the football field.
