At Edgars Youth Programme (EYP), we believe that traveling is a fundamental way for youth to gain invaluable life lessons such as making critical decisions, socializing, and enjoying unique experiences beyond their daily routines. This philosophy underpins our commitment to organizing both local and international trips, offering our young athletes opportunities to explore new environments, develop their soccer skills, and grow as individuals.

Local Tours: Exploring Uganda and Enhancing Skills

Every year, EYP organizes an end-of-year tour to various beautiful locations in Uganda. This initiative not only supports Uganda’s tourism industry but also introduces our youth to the wonders of their own country. The local tours are designed to provide a blend of adventure and soccer, allowing participants to experience the beauty of life outside their routine.

  1. Learning Through Travel
    • Traveling within Uganda allows our young athletes to make critical decisions, build social skills, and relax in new settings. It’s a chance to unwind and create lasting memories while learning important life skills.
  2. Soccer Clinics and Friendly Matches
    • Our local tours incorporate soccer clinics led by professional coaches, offering specialized training and skill development. Participants also engage in friendly matches with local teams, providing valuable match experience and fostering a competitive spirit.
  3. Promoting National Pride
    • By exploring different regions, the children develop a deeper appreciation for their country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. This fosters a sense of national pride and broadens their horizons.

International Competitions: Gaining Global Exposure

In addition to local tours, EYP has a rich history of participating in international competitions. These global events provide a platform for our young players to showcase their talents, learn from diverse playing styles, and experience different cultures.

  1. History of International Participation
    • Over the last 12 years, EYP has participated in numerous prestigious tournaments, including the World Cup Youth Conference in Germany (2006), Gothia World Youth Cup in Sweden (2008/2009), Norway Cup (2010), Schwan’s USA Cup (2011-2017), Welsh International Super Cup (2009-2015), Keele Cup (2012), Nottingham International Cup (2016), New Balance International Cup (2017), and London Cup (2018/2019).
  2. Developing Future Stars
    • The international exposure has been instrumental in developing notable players and public figures such as Andrew Kabora, Mugulusi Ibrahim, and Stephen Dese Mukwala. Competing on global stages has enhanced their skills, confidence, and career prospects.
  3. Resuming International Travels
    • Although we paused our international travel program in 2019 due to internal decisions, we look forward to resuming these trips. The anticipation for future soccer trips is high, as they promise extraordinary opportunities for young players to gain exposure and experience.

The Impact of Travel on Youth Development

Travel, both local and international, plays a crucial role in the holistic development of our young athletes. It teaches them to navigate new environments, make informed decisions, and build lasting relationships. Through soccer clinics, friendly matches, and cultural exchanges, they learn the value of teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

Edgars Youth Programme’s commitment to organizing both local and international trips is a testament to our dedication to developing well-rounded individuals. By combining soccer training with travel experiences, we provide our young athletes with opportunities to grow, learn, and excel both on and off the field. As we continue to explore the beauty of Uganda and the wider world, we remain steadfast in our mission to nurture the talents and potential of our future soccer stars.
