From Edgars Youth Academy to the World Stage: Brian Olwa & Bob Jerica Atendele Called Up to Uganda U-17s
At the heart of our mission at Edgars Youth Programme is to nurture raw talent, build character, and open doors to greatness and today, we are bursting with pride to share a truly momentous achievement for two of our standout young stars.

Brian Olwa and Bob Jerica Atendele, both graduates of the Edgars Youth Academy, have been officially summoned to join the Uganda U-17 national team (the Cubs) for the upcoming CECAFA U-17 AFCON Zonal Qualifiers. Their call-up is a powerful testament to their talent, discipline, and the transformative journey they have made through our academy.
A Journey of Dedication and Growth
Brian and Bob’s story with Edgars began when they were mere talents with a dream. Under our coaching staff’s guidance, they mastered the fundamentals: ball control, vision, work ethic, and the mental resilience needed to perform under pressure. Week after week, they trained, played, learned, and grew not just as footballers, but as young men committed to excellence.
Their commitment did not go unnoticed. When the Uganda U-17 scouts visited Edgars Youth Programme, Brian and Bob stood out not just for their skill, but for their humility and hunger to improve. Their performances earned them a place in the provisional squad, and after a rigorous selection process, they made the final traveling squad.
A Historic Call-Up
The 2025 CECAFA U-17 AFCON Zonal Qualifiers begin on 15th November 2025 and run through to 2nd December 2025. The tournament will be held in Ethiopia, with the Uganda team playing its group matches at Dire Dawa Stadium.
Uganda has been drawn into Group B, alongside Tanzania, Burundi, Sudan, and Djibouti. Under the leadership of head coach Laryea Kingston, the Cubs are ready to defend their regional title, and Brian and Bob are poised to make their mark.
Their first match kicks off on 15th November 2025, as Uganda opens its campaign against Burundi at the Dire Dawa Stadium.
What This Means for Edgars
This is more than a call-up. It’s a validation of our vision at Edgars Youth Programme: that with the right guidance, opportunity, and hard work, young talent can reach national and continental stages. Brian and Bob represent the best of what we cultivate not only skill, but heart, discipline, and a commitment to their dreams.
We know the road ahead will bring challenges. But if their journey so far is any indication, Brian and Bob will meet them head-on, wearing the Edgars badge in their hearts as they represent Uganda on a big stage.
A Message of Thanks & Hope
To our coaches, volunteers, staff, and fellow academy players: this achievement is as much yours as it is theirs. You have built a foundation, and Brian and Bob are rising on the strength of that support.
To Brian and Bob: go shine. Play with joy, respect, and intensity. And remember, Edgars Youth Programme cheers for you, every step of the way.
