Edgars Youth Programme Takes Part in AFCON 2025 Qualifiers Match-Uganda vs South Africa
On an exhilarating evening at the Mandela National Stadium, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation as the Uganda Cranes took on South Africa in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers match. Beyond the main event on the pitch, a story of growth, opportunity, and youthful exuberance unfolded, with the young players of Edgars Youth Programme (EYP).
Edgars Youth Programme, a youth soccer development organization, which has been instrumental in nurturing young football talent in Uganda, proudly took center stage that day. As the stadium filled with fans, EYP participants eagerly prepared to contribute to the event, each taking on unique and vital roles to support the match experience.
Central to the spectacle were the ball boys, a dedicated group of young players. Trained through Edgars Youth Programme, these boys ensured the game proceeded smoothly. With discipline and an acute sense of focus, they quickly retrieved and delivered balls whenever they ventured beyond the sidelines.
Adding to the day’s excitement were the escort players—aspiring young footballers given the rare opportunity to walk along with players as the teams make their way from the tunnel onto the field. Dressed in the EYP uniforms with pride gleaming in their eyes, these little ambassadors embodied the future of Ugandan football.
The young ones witnessed the fruits of dedication, practice, and determination—lessons ingrained in them through the steadily growing reach of the Edgars Youth Programme.
This memorable day at Mandela National Stadium affirmed the core mission of Edgars Youth Programme: to use soccer and soccer related activities to get children out of vulnerable situations.
As we continue to foster these promising talents, we invite more young dreamers to join our journey. Together, let’s keep the spirit of football alive, as we shape not just players, but responsible and inspired future citizens.
