Edgars Youth Programme Joins the Uganda Cranes on Historic Matchday as Youth Players Take on Special Roles

With anticipation reaching fever pitch, Edgars Youth Programme (EYP) is thrilled to announce that its young players will be integral to the Uganda Cranes’ upcoming double-header against South Africa and Congo in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers. This historic engagement kicks off on Friday, November 15, at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, before the Cranes travel for the away leg against Congo on November 19.

Our youngsters, from various programs within EYP, have been eagerly preparing to perform special roles on this grand stage. From escorting players onto the field, presenting flags, and being part of the ball personnel to engaging in the hospitality activities, these boys and girls will contribute to every facet of the game’s atmosphere, from pre-match buzz to post-game celebrations.

A Unique Experience for Young Players

The joy and anticipation among our players is palpable. Having previously been part of similar activities during national team engagements, they are familiar with the atmosphere—but this time, the stakes feel higher, and the opportunity more special. Many of these young athletes look up to the Cranes players, and to be involved in such a defining game is, in their own words, “a dream come true.”

Yahaya Sewajwa, the Technical Manager, shared his thoughts on the team’s involvement:

“Our young players have been looking forward to this day with so much enthusiasm. It’s not just about the excitement of the match; it’s also a chance for them to feel part of the journey toward qualification. Being on the field, interacting with their heroes, and seeing the fans cheering for Uganda is a unique experience that will stay with them forever.”

Building Memories and Inspiring Future Stars

For the EYP players, this experience represents a rare opportunity to be part of Uganda’s history. Not only will they witness the Cranes’ quest for AFCON qualification, but they will also carry the pride of being involved in such a monumental event. It’s a powerful reminder of why EYP is committed to providing such enriching experiences for our young athletes, blending passion for football with a sense of purpose and belonging.
