Standard Chartered Cup 2024 Draws held – Corporate Teams Set for Action on 7th September
This Saturday, 7th September 2024, MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala, will come alive as corporate teams from across Uganda compete in the 7th edition of the Standard Chartered Cup.
The tournament’s group stage draw, held on 4th September at the Standard Chartered Bank head office in Kampala, grouped the 41 teams into 8 groups of 5 teams each save for Group H with 6. The matches will follow a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Round of 16. From there, teams will compete in a knockout format until the champions are crowned.
Since the tournament’s inception in 2016, Edgars Youth Programme has been at the helm of the technical operations, ensuring the event runs smoothly. This year is no different, with Edgars once again entrusted with managing the technical aspects, reinforcing their position as a key partner in the tournament’s success.
“We are immensely thankful to Standard Chartered Bank for continuing to trust Edgars Youth Programme with this critical role. Our goal has always been to maintain the integrity and efficiency of the tournament, and this year, we have assembled a team of experienced and dedicated professionals who will ensure everything goes flawlessly,” said Joel Cornerious Kivumbi, Public Relations Manager for Edgars Youth Programme.
The technical team, led by Lwanga Ronald, Arthur Kyesimira, Kazora Emmanuel, Edwok Julius, and other skilled members of Edgars Youth Programme, is committed to delivering a world-class experience for all participants. This collaboration highlights Edgars’ ongoing dedication to uplifting the standard of football organization in Uganda.
A Trip to the UK Awaits the Winners
The grand prize for this year’s champions is an all-expenses-paid trip to the United Kingdom (UK) to watch a Liverpool FC match live—a significant motivator for the teams participating. However, despite the exciting prize, the tournament remains rooted in promoting friendly competition. All participants must be over 18 years of age and considered amateurs. Professional players who have not played in the past three years are eligible to join.
John Mwesigye, Chief Operations Officer at Standard Chartered Bank and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the importance of fair play and sportsmanship: “While this is a fun, 10-minute-per-game tournament, it tends to be highly competitive, so we encourage participants to prepare thoroughly. We are proud to have achieved our target of 40 corporate teams and are confident that this will be another memorable event.”
